Oasis Award Entry Guidelines
The Oasis Award recognizes site-specific residential outdoor rooms with an outdoor kitchen as a primary feature. The project may be real or conceptual.
All entries must incorporate components of the Custom Outdoor Kitchen Collection from Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet as central features of the outdoor kitchen.
Criteria: The judges will consider the overall design quality of the outdoor living space, including:
- Innovative incorporation of Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet kitchen components and effective kitchen design
- Integration of the outdoor kitchen space with the overall environment
- Creative and effective use of materials
- Design value to the potential client
Recognition: The winner(s) will be recognized in the following ways:
- Winner(s) announced in the October/November ASLA Residential Awards issue of Garden Design magazine
- Exposure through Garden Design at the 2008 ASLA conference
- Feature on kalamazoogourmet.com
- Feature on gardendesign.com
- Press release distributed to national media outlets
Entry Instructions: Entrants will submit:
- PDF files of site plan [Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet and Garden Design magazine retain the right to publish all images and documents submitted]
- PDF files of 3-D renderings of the project from several viewpoints — minimum of 3 views, maximum of 10
- Photographs of completed project, if applicable. JPEG files preferred
- Completed entry form
- Completed entry forms with PDF files should be emailed to

Oasis Award Entry Tips
- Submit an actual project or an unbuilt design featuring outdoor kitchen equipment from the Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet Custom Outdoor Kitchen Collection.
- Please name your project. Include the project name on the entry form as well as in each PDF file submitted.
- Design a complete outdoor entertaining area inclusive of an outdoor kitchen. The outdoor area may be designed as a single outdoor room or multiple spaces in a cohesive design.
- Use the drafting technique you are best at and most comfortable with. Entries may be hand-rendered or created on the computer. All renderings and plans, however, must be submitted as PDF files.
- Include the dimensions and scale in your site plan(s).
- Describe the features, if any, that make your project uniquely suited to the particular climate in its location.
- Specify all equipment, furniture, materials and plants used, both in the entry form and in your site plan(s).
- Only one entry is permitted per designer.
